Very few locations on this volcanic Atlantic island offer any opportunity for a golf course. At Quinta do Palheiro, golf architect Cabell Robinson combines Madeiran hills, ridges and deep valleys with golfable terrain to produce a dramatically interesting course, not too long at 6015m and playable with great enjoyment by the visiting and casual golfer.
Set between the capital and the airport the course is just 15 minutes from Funchal. Nearly two-thirds of the course is carved out of pine forest and botanical woodland established over the last 100 years. Magnificent specimen trees and shrubs, lush vegetation and the splendid views of the bay and out to the sea have resulted in one of Europe's most beautiful courses. |
