Located on the riverfront of Belem, the Monument to the Discoveries or Padrao dos Descobrimentos is an imposing stone construction. Built in the style of a Caravel to commemorate the explorers and heroes of Portugal's great maritime age, it was inaugurated on the 500th anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator. Be sure to visit the top of the tower, where stunning views of Belem, Lisbon and the Tagus estury are to be found.
