Vilamoura has long been acknowledging as one of Europe’s principal tourist golfing resorts. It offers visiting and resident golfers from both Portugal and abroad a unique range of accommodation options as well as golf facilities and services.
As part of the Vilamoura XXI Programme, Lusotur Golfes, S.A., a company that is part of the Lusotur Group, started working in May, 1999 on a modified design and complete re-building of the Laguna Golf Course’s North 9-hole loop, along with the construction of nine entirely new holes. These 18 holes form another championship class layout, called the Millennium Golf Course, which opened to public in June 2000.
Designed by U.K. architect, Martin Hawtree, the Millennium course is destined to become one of the most attractive and interesting layouts in Portugal. The setting of this course within the surrounding countryside is truly astounding, thanks to embellishments such as wooded areas and sculptured landscaping combined with the high quality and varied design of the holes. |
