This is a course that is distinguished by its pine tree-lined fairways. The first nine holes meander through an exclusive residential complex. The second nine are built on more open and undulating land with occasional glimpse of the sea beyond.
Pinhal as also undergone substantial remodelling and the resulting modifications to holes 5, 12 and 15 have greatly enhanced this already popular course.
There is no gentle easing in to action here. The first hole is a tricky par 5. The drive is blind, over a gentle rise.
The second shot is, in principle, relatively straightforward. The approach must be played with determination to carry the deep bunkers that protect a two-tiered green inclined towards the line of play.
The par 4 fourth hole (348 meters) is probably the signature hole of Pinhal. There is a small lake that comes into play at the second shot or possibly with an overly long drive. The green is undulating and tortuous, making par a real achievement even if your second shot has found putting surface. |
