Armação de PêraArmação de Pêra was initially a small fishing village where tuna fish was caught and then brought to Fisherman’s Beach (Praia do Pescador).
The net used by fishermen to catch the tuna fish was called “Armação” and as the region is near Pêra, it became known as Armação de Pêra. It’s in Armação de Pêra that you can come across one of the prettiest beaches in the Algarve, with enchanting coves along the coast and an excellent choice of fish restaurants mainly near the Praia do Pescador. This is the ideal spot for spending some relaxing holidays and it has that feeling about it that you’ll just love. Armação de Pêra beach is perfect for children as it is very calm and slopes down gradually. During the day, fishermen often take visitors on a trip along the coast, where they can see rock formations, caves and caverns. Also in this area you can visit the small Chapel of Senhora da Rocha where fishermen used to pray before they left on their nightly fishing trips. Apparently, this is the area where Virgin Mary was supposed to have been seen. From the Chapel, you can see some of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve and this is a good spot to take photographs. |
