Location of Dom Gonçalo Hotel and Spa

GPS Coordinates: Latitude 39°38'4.39"N Longitude 8°40'56.82"W

The Dom Gonçalo Hotel and Spa’s convenient location and its easy access to Portugal’s main highway gives that touch of extra comfort when you want to discover the surroundings.

One hundred and twenty kilometres north of Lisbon, the area is rich in activities and culture. Only 19 km away is the Monastery of Batalha, perhaps the most important Portuguese example of Late Gothic architecture. Another UNESCO World site, the Convent of Christ of Tomar, dating back to the 12th century, is only 30 km away.

If you feel like the great outdoors, head approximately 30 km west to the picturesque seaside village of Nazaré. Unspoilt, one can still find old traditions and customs as well as magnificent beaches considered some of the finest in Portugal. Or head to the south-east of Fatima, where Golegã, known as the “Capital of the Horse”, is a real find for the horse lover, offering all kinds of equestrian activities, including riding lessons. The nearby Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park offers not only beautiful scenery, but also a number of spectacular caves. Fatima is also surrounded by wine producing estates, such as Tomar, Batalha and Alcobaça.

It would of course be a sin to be in Fátima and not visit the Holy Virgin’s sanctuary and the related sights. One of the most important latter day events for Catholics occurred here: the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to three children in the beginning of the 20th century over a period of a few months and to have revealed information and prophecies to them. It is visited by literally millions of believers annually and the recently inaugurated 9,000-seat “Church of the Most Holy Trinity” is a wondrous sight to behold.

Whatever your belief or faith, there’s always something to be experienced within easy reach of the Dom Gonçalo Hotel.
